Display Studio: A number of browser tabs are open to Venus Control Suite (VCS) login screen on Show Control computers

Potential Symptoms

  • A number of tabs are open in the default browser for VCS login page on Display Studio Computers. 
  • Display Studio shows a 🔴Status Alert for Unauthenticated credentials for Venus.

Environment

Cause

If Display Studio remains active for seven days, it loses the ability to connect to Dak hosted VCS and begins generating login prompts in the browser for the user. 

  • For Display Studio versions 4.11 and earlier, a new browser tab will be opened every 30 seconds.
  • For Display Studio version 4.12 or later, there will be a status alert in Display Studio. 

Resolution

Update to Display Studio 4.12.4 or later.  

  • Display Studio 4.12+ will prompt for user credentials when first starting up.
  • Display Studio does not have a valid token, then an error will be displayed in the status indicator as a red error vs the previous browser prompt. 
  • Users can click a login link in the status indicator adjacent to the aforementioned error message to log into VCS.

For Temporary Operation

  • Enter the customer's venus.daktronics.com credentials in the browser window prompt. (local VCS credentials will fail)
    • This will have to be done for each Show Control server/user stations, and they may all be on different 7-day cycles. 
    • Do NOT make changes to the Display Studio installation in regard to the Venus plugin.
