Unable to ping or connect to controller when directly connected; Bad Ethernet jack

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to ping the display from any of the communication points (network, J32 on the Quick Connect (QC), J32 direct to controller).
  • Unable to connect to display using appropriate software.
  • Direct connection to controller showing Ethernet cable disconnected on servicer laptop.
  • Client radio showing no link light on ETH.
  • Both DMP and VIP showing communication error (all offline) in Venus Control Suite (VCS).
  • Unable to detect the display using display find, even when hardwired into the controller.
  • "Network cable unplugged" from network connections when hardwired into the controller using known working ethernet cable.
  • Display may show "IP Link Not found", "ETH: No Link", or eth0: 169.254.x.x on bootup in place of the IP address.

  • Bad Ethernet (J32, CAT5) jack (port) on controller.

Resolution

  • Replace the controller.
