Power supply redundancy board timing out.

Potential Symptoms

  • VFC reporting Power supply redundancy board (PSRB) failing.
  • PSRB no lights on it.

Environment

  • Transportation
  • Vanguard VM-10xx
  • PSRB ( Power supply redundancy Board)
    • Part: 0A-1872-3001, 0A-1872-3002, 0A-1872-3004
    • Wired directly to the VFC.
  • VFC

Cause

  • Incorrect wiring between the VFC and PSRB.
  • VFC firmware not up to date (VIP should be VB2444 or higher.)
  • Incorrect configuration in the VFC.
  • Incorrect Address dial settings on the PSRB.
  • PSRB - firmware out dated.
  • Redundant PS isn't outputting voltage to PSRB.

Resolution

  1. Verify that the PSRB has power.
  2. Verify firmware is the latest including video processor is at least VB2444 or higher by performing the following:
    1. logging into the VFC.
    2. Selecting sign number 1.
    3. Select diagnostics.
    4. Select version.

  3. Verify that the wiring is correct reference schematic or contract manual.
  4. Verify that the hardware address is correct on the PSRB see image below.
    1. Below pic is an example in this case the right dial is addressed to 1.

  5. Below are video links of what LED indicator flash speed will be when communicating and not communicating.
    1. PSRB should be talking
    2. PSRB not communicating
  6. If communication light isn't flashing at all verify that the redundant input on PSRB has voltage.
  7. If the redundant power supply input isn't providing voltage, then make sure power supply is working and outputting.  Note: is redundant power supply isn't providing voltage to the PSRB then it will report time out on the controller and communication light wont flash on the PSRB.  Also, could affect the rest in the chain after that PSRB.
  8. If all the above has been checked, then replace the PSRB.
  9. IMPORTANT: If it is a single PSRB or last in line and requires Resistor Harness order the following part: 0A-2183-3886
