Windows Account Error: The Referenced Account Is Currently Locked Out, set account lockout threshold to 0
Potential Symptoms
- When trying to sign into DakUser or other accounts, getting "The Referenced Account Is Currently Locked Out" error
- Error may occur even on the first sign-in attempt or after the 10th failed sign-in by default
- Issue resolves after 10 minutes (windows default)

Cause
- Windows Account Lockout Threshold is set to lockout sign-ins for 10 minutes after 10 failed sign-ins, but it has been seen to occur even on the first sign-in attempt
Resolution
- Once able to sign into an administrator account, press Windows Key + R or search for Run in Windows and type "gpedit.msc" to bring up the Windows Local Group Policy Editor
- Go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Account Policies and select Account Lockout Policy
- Double-click the Account lockout threshold policy.
- Set the “Account will lock out after” option to 0 invalid logon attempts and click Apply
- Windows will no longer lock the account after any number of failed sign-in attempts, restart the computer and attempt to sign in normally.
