All Sport: How do I update firmware via a PROM replacement?

How do I update firmware on an All Sport 5000 console? 

Environment

  • Product: All Sport Console 
  • Components: PROM,  IC puller (Chip extractor) required      
  • Control System: 
All Sport Radio consoles must be R4 or greater 

Steps

  1. Open the console                
    1. Turn off console and unplug. 
    2. Remove top back screws on both sides of All Sport console.                    
    3. Loosen the middle screws of console keypad on both sides.                    
  2. Remove the old PROM                                     
    1. Flip LCD screen down on top of keyboard to expose PCB.                    
    2. Locate old PROM, U15.                    
    3. Using an IC puller (Chip extractor) , remove old PROM.                                   
  3.  Replace                   
    1. Place new PROM into U15 socket, verifying all pins are in the socket holes.                                     
    2. Once aligned, firmly press PROM into socket. 
    3. Document the version # for verification.                                  
  4. Reassemble                                    
    1. Flip LCD back and replace all screws that were removed and tighten any screws that were loosened previously. 
    2. Power on All Sport and verify that it boots.        
    3. Observe that the LCD display reads the new firmware version as documented.
