Unable to access a hard drive on Buffalo NAS or Buffalo Terastation; Disks are failing

Potential Symptoms

  • Buffalo Terastation has a warning light on it's front or may have some other indication such as error(s) found at its web management page.
  • Unable to access one or more drives on the Buffalo NAS.

Cause

  • One or more disks in the Buffalo NAS have failed or are malfunctioning.

Resolution

  • Replace failed disks.
    • Consult Buffalo's website for correct drive part numbers based on model of the Buffalo Storage Device.
    • Note: Only replacement disks from Buffalo will work.  In other words, buying a 2TB 3.5 disk drive from other places will not work in place of getting the 2TB drive directly from Buffalo.
