New VFC-3000 wont display message properly on the sign.

Potential Symptoms

  • Swapped out an older VFC-3000 controller with a newer one.
  • Only portions of the sign will display. 
  • Only 3 can lights flashing on the VCB but rest of can lines are off. 
  • Split line output with RMA controller 

Environment

  • Transportation
  • Vanguard
  • VF-2400 with split signal CAN lines
  • VFC-3000 1.9.4588.54 or newer firmware

Cause

  • Latest VFC-3000 firmware doesn't tell the sign to split the signal correctly.

Resolution

  1. Backdate the VFC-3000 firmware to revision 1.9.4588.32. 
    1. File can be found dakfiles.daktronics.com - /downloads/Transportation/Firmware/VFC-3000/NTCIP_V2/ "split line 32"
    2. Follow How to update firmware on a VFC-3000 controller using DFTP software
  2. Restore controller to factory defaults and reconfigure sign parameters and peripherals.
  3. Verify the message display properly on the sign.
