Message display too bright at night, alternate light source affecting light sensor.

Potential Symptoms

  • Display is reported as too bright at night during evening hours, but is at correct brightness during the day.
  • Light sensor shows an active connection with proper readings during the day, but high readings at night.

Cause

  • Alternate light source is located close to the light sensor of the display impacting the light values.
  • This results in an increased brightness that remains on the display as the controller perceives the brightness outside to be much larger due to the nearby lighting.

Resolution

Option #1:
  • Relocate the alternate source of lighting away from the light sensor eye.
Option #2:
  • Relocate the light sensor eye away from the alternate source of lighting.
Option #3:
  • Contact Daktronics Technical support to adjust brightness settings on the controller.
