Data Studio unable to add Excel source over the network

Potential Symptoms

  • When adding an excel sheet as a source that's located in C:\Data it works fine.
  • The same file on a mapped network drive doesn't get added, instead there's an error about the workbook tab not existing.

Environment

  • Product: Data Studio
  • Component: Excel Data Source
  • Control System: Data Studio

Cause

  • Data Studio expects the source to be saved locally. 

Resolution

  • Move the file to a local location. (For example: "C:\Data")
  • If the file needs to be accessed remotely, a solution like mapping the local drive to the other machine will need to be used.
