Mapped Drive Disconnects on Windows Machine
Potential Symptoms
- Mapped network drive disconnects after some time being inactive. You will see the drive in file explorer with a red 'x' on top of it to indicate it is disconnected.
- This can affect the way 3rd party and live events systems operate with stats, NAS's and CG's including:
- Syncback issues to NAS's.
- Stats issues to other Dak or non-dak machines such as crashing databases or computers.
- Show control computer is connected to dak rack through ethernet but internet through Wifi
Environment
- Product Family: Live events
- Product: Windows machines
- Component: Mapped network drive
- Control System: Any
Cause
- Windows has an 'autodisconnect' function that is built in to save resources when the mapped drive is not in use.
- Networks are set to Automatic Metric and Windows is prioritizing internet connection causing the hostname to show as non-existent on WIFI
Resolution
- Open an elevated cmd prompt (run as administrator)
- Enter the command: net config server /autodisconnect:-1
- This will set the machine to never disconnect mapped drives.
Or
- Set Network connections with appropriate metric to prioritize Daktronics Network
For Temporary Operation
- You can re-associate the drive by double clicking on it and accessing the file system.
or
- Disconnect from Wifi
