Receiving SQLCMD returned error code: -1073741819 or 255 during installation of Venus 1500; database SQL scripts failed
Potential Symptoms
- Install error with "SQLCMD returned code: -1073741819" or "SQLCMD returned error code: 255"
- SQLCMD.exe - Application Error: The instruction at 0x00fa1470 referenced memory at 0x004af000. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.
- Error Updating Database, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP1 requires the latest cumulative update.
- NOTE: This does not apply if the error has a value of 1. The specified log file will contain more information in those situations.
- Error log entry Application log in Windows Event Viewer.
- SQLCMD.EXE crashes during the install with an exception code of 0xC0000005.

The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start.

Cause
- During a first time install of Venus 1500 4.22, the database SQL scripts have sometimes failed due to an access denied error.
Resolution
- Uninstall initial installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2014.

- Download and install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP3 Express

- Run Venus 1500 installer.
For Temporary Operation
- Download and install Cumulative Update 5 (or newer) for SQL Server 2014 Express SP1 using the following link:
- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51186.
- Note: Always use the x86 version.
- Be sure to manually start Nucleus Service prior to running installation, otherwise installer may hang during "Nucleus Update: MSITimingAction" process.
- If appears to hang, make sure all V1500 install windows are closed.
- Running the update: Important to make sure that the NUCLEUS instance is the feature to update.
Run Venus 4.22 installer again.
