Environment
- Product: GS6
- Components: DM-100 control pad, DMP-5050 controller, Moxa adapter, Lantronix Box UDS-1100 modem, DB-9 serial cable, Ethernet cable
- Control System: Venus Control Suite (VCS)
Steps
Configure the DM-100.
- Set it to ERTD mode.
- Cycle power to the DM-100 and watch the boot up sequence.

- Configure the Lantronix Ethernet/Serial device.
- Use device installer to configure Lantronix UDS-1100.
- Use Device installer to configure Lantronix box follow this article.
- Connect to the UDS-1100 with either Ethernet cable or serial cable.
- Open device installer and click search.
- Click on the IP it found and select the telnet tab.
- Click connect.
- Press enter to start Setup Mode.
- Press 0 and enter to start server config.
- Enter the IP address for the modem.
- Enter the Gateway.
- Type the number of bits and enter to set the subnet mask. Chart below.
- Press enter to not set the DNS Server IP.
- Press enter to not set the Telnet/Web manager password.
- Press enter to not set the DHCP name.
- Press enter to keep DHCP FQDN option disabled.
- Press 1 and enter to start channel 1 config.
- Press enter to use 9600 baud.
- Press enter to use 4C interface mode.
- Press enter to disable flow control.
- Enter the port number of the sign and press enter to set the Port number. Set to 27000.
- Type CC enter to set Connect Mode.
- Type 01 enter to set Datagram Type.
- Press enter to disable broadcast.
- Enter the Signs IP address for remote.
- Enter the port number of the sign and press enter to set remote port. Set to 27000.
- Type 02 enter to set the Pack Control.
- Press enter to set SendChar1 to 00.
- Press enter to set SendChar2 to 00.
- Press 9 enter to save configuration and exit setup mode. You should get a message that says Parameters stored.
- Disconnect the Moxa Adapter from the DB9 serial cable.
- Note: Verify the serial connection is a null modem adapter ideally
Log into the DMP.

Click the wrench icon on left side.

Select RTD.

Select add Mapping.

Enter 1 for Sign number and name it Primary/Overlay.

In Data Sources Add DM-100 to the selected sources.

Content

Create your default message and switch messages in VCS. Content Studio: How do I launch for Venus Control Suite? .

Select the display tab on the left in VCS and select the display you are working with.

Select layout and associate the layout you created to the display and select save.

Save your switch message (vmpf files) to your desktop. Note: Messages must be saved as Message 1 for switch 1, Message 2 etc... These messages are case sensitive. How to save content studio messages to desktop from VCS

Store the messages to the locale folder on DMP can be performed from the DMP Storage
On the DMP User Interface Dashboard Select Storage.
- By selecting Delete and initiating the Delete, this will remove all VMPF files from the Local folder.
- Selecting Browse opens the File Folder to locate your file.
- select one VMPF file and Open. (Only works one file at a time.)
- Click Send to upload your VMPF file to the Local Folder. (If the Local folder does not exist this action will populate the folder for you.)
Optional : Review VMPF files location.
- You can confirm this using FileZilla (Optional)

Download FileZilla.

Open FileZilla and enter Host name (Signs IP).

Enter the username and password. Contact Daktronics for log in credentials.

Enter port 22.

Select connect.

Create a folder named Local in this location /usr/share/Daktronics/Content. Note: if DMP controller has 9.X.X firmware then the messages need to be stored in this location srv/dmp/content

Transfer your switch messages over to this folder.
Venus Layout Editor
Using VCS create an Overlay.
- Log into the Venus Layout Editor app.
- On the left-hand side click the tools icon.
- Select layouts.
- Select new layout.
- Name it Overlay.
- Select your size sign.
- Select continue.
- Select zone icon at the top.
- Under position set the Height and Width of the sign.
- Under "Player," select the radio button for "Blank"
- By default, set to "Resume." This will cause any default content to appear underneath the Overlay content.
- Select Save.
