How do I use diagnostic test patterns to identify Pro Link Router (PLR), SATA cable, and module problems?

Topic

  • How do I use the VIP-5060 diagnostics test patterns to identify Pro Link Router (PLR), SATA cable, and module problems?
  • How do I run display diagnostics through a VIP-5060?
  • How do I check the port A port B health on display components?
  • How do I perform a display health or systems check for port A and B on modules?

Environment

  • Product: GalaxyPro, GS6, DB-4200
  • Component: VIP-5050, VIP-5060
  • Control System:  Message Display, Billboards

Steps

  • Silverlight (legacy) VIP web interface
    1. Connect to VIP web interface page.
    2. Navigate to Tools tab and click on Diagnostic Patterns button.  The entire display will turn green or red.
      • You will be presented with the following window:
        1GP420Diagnostics20Test202.jpg
    3. Select PL6 as device and select each test as needed.
      • The entire display will be green if all PLRs pass the selected test but will turn any section controlled by a PLR ,that is failing the selected test, red.
      • You can select a specific PLR address if you don't want to test all the PLRs.
        • Note that the results require knowledge of the display's signal flow.  A red display or display section may not indicate a failing PLR but could instead indicate a disconnected, missing, or damaged fiber cable.
    4.  Select PL5 as device and select each test as needed.
      • Any modules that pass the selected test will be green while those that are failing will be red.
        • Note that the results require knowledge of the display's signal flow.  A red module may not indicate a failing mod but could instead indicate a disconnected, missing, or damaged SATA cable.
    • If desired you can select passed or failed for each test that is run and then save all the results as a text file for future reference.  Text file will just give you the general results of each test and will not indicate which specific PLR or module is failing which test.

  •  HTML (new) VIP web interface (only available in b1961 firmware or newer)
    1. Connect to VIP web interface page.
    2. Click the Troubleshooting option from options along the left hand side of the page.
    3. Click the Display Hardware option from the choices on the left under the "Troubleshooting" heading.

    4. Perform the following based on the Device you would like to test.
        • Note that the results require knowledge of the display's signal flow.  A red display or display section may not indicate a failing PLR but could instead indicate a disconnected, missing, or damaged fiber cable.  A red module may not indicate a failing mod but could instead indicate a disconnected, missing, or damaged SATA cable.
      • To test PLRs
        • Under the "Device" heading pick either Display Interface (ProLink 6)
        • Under the "Test to run" select what you would like to test.
          • Signal Backbone will test the fiber connection from the PLR back to the VIP
          • Output to module will test the SATA connection to the immediately attached module
      • To test Modules
        • Under the "Device" heading choose Module (ProLink 5)
        • Under "test to run" select what you would like to test.
