Receiving error Cannot open database "Nucleus Log" version 6.11. Upgrade the database to the latest version, Corrupt SQL installation

Potential Symptoms

  • During update of Venus 1500 Version 4, receive the following error:
    • Cannot open database "Nucleus Log" version 6.11. Upgrade the database to the latest version
  • Database backup file may have a .temp file extension, or a .bak extension instead of .nucbak.

Cause

  • Corrupt SQL installation.

Resolution

    1. Uninstall SQL 2008 following How to remove/uninstall SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2014.
    2. Install SQL 2014 SP 2 manually following How to install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 manually
    3. If Venus 1500 was uninstalled during the failed update, reinstall Venus 1500 version 4.22.2 using the Venus 1500 update file.
    4. Load an existing database backup that does not have a .temp or .bak extension.
      • If there is no good backups available, then all old content will be lost.
