Module appears to be blank after running a message on the sign

Topic

  • It is possible that some modules will work correctly and display the information as intended.
  • If the modules appear blank after turning the sign on & playing a message/test pattern, the module(s) is not receiving proper CAN signal and is unable to detect the address on the signal line.
  • The cause seems to be that the pins on the signal cable plug(s) is not making a good connection to the pins on the module jack(s).

Steps

  1. Access the sign.
  2. Note what each 7-Segment LED is reporting. It should be showing something if it is powered up.
  3. Attempt to adjust the signal plug in order to make a good connection with the pins inside the jack.
  4. If connection cannot be made, it is recommended to replace the signal harness for that row of modules. Note the part # on the white label that is on the signal cable.
  5. Contact customer service for replacement part. 1-800-833-3157.
  6. We recommend if it is intermittently failing to replace the harness and send it in for engineering evaluation.
  7. If the harness checks out and you do not find an issue with that, then inspect the power connector by pressing on it to attempt a better connection to the board. It may have a bad solder joint on one of the pins.
  8. If the module is determined to be the issue, then it will  need to be sent in for repair.
