Content Studio: How do I create content that shows headshots via sport media RTD?
Topic
- How to create media RTD (Real-Time Data) batter headshots in Content Studio?
- What are the best practices for creating batter headshots?
Environment
- Product: Content Studio
- Components: DakStats, Data Studio Baseball, Content Studio, DMP-8000 Players
- Control System: Show Control System (SCS)
Steps
Media RTD fields are fields that display images for real time data fields, instead of data. For example, a Media RTD field would display a player's headshot, instead of displaying their name. With this, one Content Studio presentation can be used to show every player headshot. Media changes when the connecting data updates.
👉This example uses DakStats Baseball as an example. This feature can be used with other stat programs and sports that interface with Daktronics Show Control System.
Saving your media
DMP-8000 Supported File Types: VMPL, VMPF, AVI, BMP, JPG, JPEG, PNG, MPG, MPEG, and SWF- Images must stored in the MediaRTD folder, located under C:\Program Data\Daktronics\VNET4\Content\MediaRTD
DMP-7000, see Venus 7000: How to display bitmaps based on data fields?
- DMP-7000 Supported File Types: BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF, and TIF
- Images must be stored in the Bitmaps folder, located under D:\V7000\Bitmap
Naming your media
- The images must match the same name as the RTD field it will be linked to.
- For batter headshots, name the headshots as: ##lastname.png or 32Anderson.png (combination of jersey number and player last name as entered in DakStats.)
- For a player with a single digit number, the file should be named #lastname.png.
- To help avoid running into players with the same name and same number, fields have been created called Batter Bitmap Player and Pitcher Bitmap Player.
Import the RTD Field
- Drag & drop these fields to your presentation.
- Check the "Is media RTD" checkbox.
- A popup window will open. Browse to the image you wish to associate with the RTD Field.
- When you select a file, you are not necessarily selecting the image that will always appear, rather a place holder that will allow you to properly place where you want the Media RTD to appear. The content that appears will depend on the naming of the files and the corresponding data.

It is advised to use multiple fields to combine the Batter Number and Last Name together to create your headshots when using Data Studio Baseball. This keeps the combination unique to each player. See Content Studio: How do I combine data elements together? for how to use this feature.

Media RTD headshot considerations
- Headshots are often from the torso up and they have the player in some type of pose either with a ball, bat, or glove. In other styles, the player will be facing straight forward with the arms crossed smiling at the camera. Headshots are usually cut outs without a background that way the player card background the headshot is displayed on can be seen behind the headshot.
- The headshot media files can be loaded into the Media RTD folder in advance. The teams can be organized in folders. Content Studio: How do I work with Sport Media RTD Items saved inside subfolders?
- Once configured, the headshot changes as each new batter comes into the box or any pitcher changes are made. The speed at which the headshots change depends on the DakStats operator. With requested stats, the headshot will change based on the Show Control operator.
- File types are listed in their order of priority - if multiple files with the same name are in the MediaRTD folder, the player will use the file that is of the type listed first above (i.e. if the MediaRTD folder contained both Player Name.JPG and Player Name.AVI, it would insert Player Name.AVI into the content).
