Content Studio: How do I convert multiple media files at one time?

Topic

This guide provides instructions on how to convert a batch of player headshots, sponsor spots, or any other files to Content Studio's vmpf format. This would be particularly useful for instances where the media files are not natively compatible with the display.   Batch convert utility can save a great deal of time and effort in the preparation of these files.

Environment

  • Product:
  • Components: Content Studio, DMP-8000
  • Control System: Show Control System (SCS)

Many used this on DMP-8000 systems to force a specific duration before you could change the default image duration on the player or specific file duration in a button. To change your default image duration on your player, see How to Configure the default image duration on a DMP . To change your media file duration in a button, see Display Studio: How do I customize a media file duration

Steps

Organize folder structure.

Each Display has a Default Library, but it is advised to create extra folders or libraries to store content.  Plan out the content library naming conventions for each configured display.  Identify the topic of the media files in the folder name, for example- Headshots 2015, Sponsorships, and Crowd Prompts.   For facilities with multiple displays, each sign library should contain the same naming conventions.
Note: For DMP 8000 and 7000 players, it would be beneficial to map a network drive to the sign libraries from the Show Control computers.  Directions for mapping a network drive can be located in The Show Control User Handbook DD 2003514.
DMP-8000
Content must be located on the DMP-8000 computer and placed within the following folder:
For Windows XP machines: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\VNET4\Content
For Windows 7 machines: C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\VNET4\Content
Content may be placed within the C:\…\Content folder or within one subfolder deep of this folder
DMP 1500 - See DD2341405

Prepare creative content for conversion.

  • In cases where there is a large quantity of creative files, it is advisable to organize the content prior to converting.  Separate files by size and topic.
  • File names should not contain any special special characters. examples: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ ` { | } ~
  • Save the files on an external drive and connect to the Show Control Computer.

Open batch conversion utility.

  1. Open Content Studio.  This can be done by selecting the pencil button in the top right corner of Display Studio.
  2. Click on the Content Studio applications menu (orange "V" or blue cube in the top left corner).   Then click Batch Conversion from the drop down list.
  3. The Batch Conversion window will populate the screen.  Click on New Session at the top left to start a new batch conversion.
  4. A New Presentation Wizard window will populate, click on the Display Choice.  Click Next, and then select the appropriate from the sign options given.

Choose options for converting.

In the main tab of Batch Conversion, the Source folder allows the user to navigate to the location of the creative files.  This can be on an external hard drive or saved locally.

  1. Click Browse to open the Browse For Folder window. Select the folder which contains the file(s) you wish to convert, and click OK. Any files in that folder which are capable of being converted will appear in the Media files to convert box.
  2. In the Media files to convert box, place check marks next to each file you wish to convert.
  3. Content Studio will convert each of your files into its own separate Content Studio Presentation. If you would prefer to have all of the files combined into a single presentation, place a check mark next to Combine Media Files into a Single Presentation, and specify a filename for the presentation in the Presentation Name field.

In the Target folder field, the default content folder for your selected display/display type's digital media player will be pre-populated. Select Browse to navigate to the appropriate sign library.
Specify how long you wish for your layout(s) to last in the Duration field. Enter the desired length of time in the text box and select the appropriate unit of time using the provided drop-down list.

If you wish to add a transition effect to the beginning of the layout(s), use the Entry Transition drop-down list to select the desired transition
