Venus 1500: How do you convert an animated GIF to work in version 4 / Content Studio?

Steps

Animated GIF is not a supported file type for Venus 1500 v4 however the animated GIF can easily be converted to an accepted format using Virtual Dub or any other 3rd party video editing program that accepts animated GIF.  To view accepted file formats for Venus 1500 V4, reference What are the requirements for creating animations or videos in Venus 1500 V3, V4, and Show Control Systems? .

  1. Download the VirtualDub at SourceForge.
  2. Create a folder on the desktop and save the Virtual Dub zip file to the computer.
  3. Extract the files to this folder.
  4. Open the folder created above and run the VirtualDub.exe.
  5. From the File menu select "Open Video File".
  6. Browse for the video file you wish to convert.
  7. From the Video menu select "Compression".
  8. Select "Uncompressed RGB/YcbCr".
  9. Click OK
  10. From the Video menu select "Frame Rate".
  11. Select "Change frame rate to (FPS)" and enter 30.
  12. Click OK.
  13. From the File menu select "Save as AVI".
  14. Choose an appropriate location to save the file.
  15. Enter an appropriate descriptive name for the file and click "Save".
  16. Open Content Studio.
  17. From the Home tab, select Media Item from the Quick Insert area and choose Video.
  18. Browse to the file location and select the converted avi file. Click Open.
  19. The Video Import window opens.  You may see a message "Unable to retrieve the requested video frame"  Ignore it.
  20. Click the Options Tab,  and under Import mode, select Normal.

  21. Under Final frame rate, Frames/sec, use the drop down to change to 6.           
  22. Click Import.
  23. Preview the animation.  If it plays too fast, reimport and change the Final frame rate to a number less than 6 to get the desired effect.  If it plays too slow, reimport and change the Final frame rate to a number greater than 6.
  24. Switch to the Timeline and change the duration of the layout and animation to the length you want it to repeat.
