D-Link USB to Ethernet adapter, Windows does not recognize, bad adapter

Potential Symptoms

  • When installing the D-Link USB to Ethernet adapter, it fails to install.
    • May get error 97 when it is configuring the IP address.
    • When adapter is plugged into USB port, receive the following error notification.
    • USB Device Not Recognized
      One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
  • Adapter does not show up in Device Manager or in Network Adapters and LED is not lit.
  • Issue does not change if adapter is plugged into another computer.
  • D-Link appears to install without errors but shows up in Device Manager with yellow ! and properties shows a code 10 error, but does not work even after uninstalling current driver and installing compatible driver.
  • D-Link LED is not lighting.

Cause

  • Faulty or malfunctioning D-Link USB to Ethernet adapter.

Resolution

  • Replace the faulty D-Link USB to Ethernet adapter.

For Temporary Operation

  1. Use computers Ethernet jack if not in use.
  2. Set NIC to correct static IP range for the display's range. Example:  display is at 172.16.192.25,  set PC LAN to .21
  3. Connect the display Ethernet communication equipment through the network and adjust the NIC to the correct static IP range for the display.
