Why is the hockey enable / disable penalty clock feature not automatic between periods on break time?

Steps

  1. The enable/disable penalty clock operation is MANUAL because most operators press the <SET MAIN CLOCK> button once to adjust the game clock.
  2. The length of any given period of time varies for each level of play.  For this reason making the operation AUTOMATIC would make the console even more complicated to operate (IE more keystrokes and configuration prior to start of each game).
The last two characters in the bottom of the LCD screen show the All Sport operator if it is currently enabled (EN) or disabled (DS). If there are no penalty times that need to roll over to the next period, the disable button will not need to be pressed.  See also In hockey sport code, what does EN mean on my console screen, DD2500856.
