Error 1053 when trying to start SQL Server (NUCLEUS), Antivirus preventing service from starting

Potential Symptoms

  • Receiving error when launching Venus: Nucleus service could not be started. Cannot open Daktronics Nucleus Server service on computer.
  • Services are not running
  • When attempt is made to start SQL Server (Nucleus) service then get error: "Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The Service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
  • Issue remains after re-installing SQL.
  • When installing SQL, may get error "Database Engine Service failed".

Cause

  • Antivirus program is blocking the service.

Resolution

  • Disable antivirus program, then try re-installing the software.
    • Antivirus programs known to block services for Venus include but are not limited too:
      • Webroot
      • AVAST
      • Panda
      • Trend Micro
      • PC Mantic
