No communication, Ethernet based, Port lock up or asleep on network

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication to the display.
  • Unable to ping the display.
  • Can ping the default gateway.
  • Able to connect/ping display when bypassing network.

Environment

  • Product Family: Message Systems.
  • Product: Galaxy, Galaxy Pro.
  • Component: Ethernet-based communication (Ethernet wire, Ethernet Bridge Radios - EBR, Ethernet Fiber).
  • Control System: Venus 1500, Venus Control Suite (VCS).

Cause

  • The Ethernet port locked up on the router, switch, hub, network patch panel or fell asleep.

Resolution

  • Reseat the Ethernet cable from the Daktronics equipment.

Note:  If the issue repeatedly occurs, there may be a conflict in NIC speeds:

  • Galaxy displays (AF-31XX - AF-35XX and AF-3700) can be locked in at 10/100 half or full-duplex or set to auto-negotiate.
  • GP3 - GP4 displays are configured for auto-negotiation.

For Temporary Operation

  • Power cycle the network device (i.e. hub, switch, router).
