Display is blank & all peripherals report as failed

Potential Symptoms

  • VFC-3000 peripherals show error.
  • Unable to post a message.
  • Module 7 segment is flashing error code 1.

Environment

    Product Family: Transportation
    • Product: Vanguard
    • Component: CAN Distribution Board, Fiber/RS422 cable
    • Control System: VFC-3000

    Cause

    Possible Causes below could cause sign not to display and peripherals report as failed.

    • Possible power to the site, controller or sign.
    • Possible communication issue.
      • If using RS422 port:
        • RS422 cable running in between could have an issue.
        • J11 or J12 port on VFC-3000 failed.
        • J3 port on the CAN distribution board failed.
      • If using Fiber ports:
        • The fiber ends could be dirty or damaged.
        • The fiber could be damaged.
        • The CAN distribution board could have an issue.
        • VFC-3000 could have an issue.

    Resolution

    1. Verify the controller and sign have power.
    2. Verify that controller is configured correctly.
    3. Check what the modules are flashing on the back.
    4. If everything is configured correct, then look at the signal cable to make sure they are connected correctly.
    5. Inspect the cable, it could be cut or have a knick in it or the ends are terminated incorrectly or damaged.
    6. Replace parts as needed.
