Unable to log into Vanguard software because the license lock code changed

Potential Symptoms

The license lock code frequently becomes invalid on a virtual machine.

Environment

  • Product Family: Transportation
  • Product: Vanguard Software
  • Component: Virtual Server
  • Control System: Vanguard V4 Software

Cause

Old versions of Venus 1500 and Vanguard used to lock to multiple hardware features (hard disk id, network, etc.) which could sometimes change.

Resolution

Newer versions of Vanguard report a lock code that binds to only the hard disk ID, which only changes if the hard drive is changed out. To solve the issue you would need to obtain a new license code from Daktronics. 1C-xxxxx was old style lock code, and 4-xxxxx is new style lock code.

  1. Open Vanguard software & click on the orange V in the top left.
  2. Go to Licensing Details and verify the current lock code is 1C-xxxxx (or something other than 4-xxxxx).
  3. Upgrade to latest version of Vanguard. You will need to contact Daktronics Tech support for the download password.
  4. The computer will ask to restart once it finishes the upgrade.
  5. After the computer restarts. Log into the Software, and go to the licensing details and verify that the new lock code is 4-xxxxx.
  6. Let the tech know you need to obtain a new license & they will generate it for you.
  7. Import the new license file.
