How do I cycle power?

What does it mean to perform a power cycle or cycle power to my equipment?

Resolution

  • Cycling power to a piece of equipment means to shut off power to a particular electronic device and then restore power after a short period of time has elapsed.
  • Possible steps for cycling power
    • Either unplug the electrical device from its electrical outlet (for small electronics) and then plug it back in after approximately 10-20 seconds have passed
    • Or find the local disconnect/breaker for larger electronic device (scoreboards, video boards, message centers, etc...) and flip the breaker off for at least 40-60 seconds.
Note: Generally, the larger the electrical device, the larger the capacitors that are used by the piece of equipment.  Therefore, it's necessary to turn off the device for a longer period of time to make sure the device fully shuts down.
