Display is periodically losing communication; Local Area Network turned off by Windows

Potential Symptoms

  • Not able to connect to display.  Issue occurs periodically.
    • No communication.
  • Onboard Network Interface Card (NIC) does not appear as a local area connection under network connections.
  • USB to Ethernet adapter keeps loosing its static IP information but is not being physically disconnected from computer.

Environment

  • Product: Galaxy, AF-3500, AF-3550, Electronic Message Center (EMC) or Board (EMB), Marquee, Readerboard, Display
  • Component: Computer NIC, USB to Ethernet LAN connection
  • Control System:

Cause

  • NIC or LAN adapter is set so Windows can turn it off to save power.

Resolution

  1. Go to Device manager on PC.
  2. Right-click on the Network adapter that the sign is connected to and go to Properties.
  3. Click the Power Management tab, uncheck Allow Windows to turn this device off to save power.
  4. Click Apply and/or Ok.

Work Around

  • Reboot Computer.
