Track Interface: Intermittent connection from Display Studio to M3 controller with FinishLynx

Potential Symptoms

  • Intermittent connection from Display Studio to M3 controller.   
    • When connection fails Display Studio shows Error Status unable to reach the M3 controller's IP Address.
    • When connection fails M3 File Manger is unable to show currently stored messages on the controller.
  • FinishLynx RTD over UDP 3002 output working and changing game in progress (GIP) data successfully.
  • Close out of FinishLynx software allows for full connection from Display Studio to M3 controller.

Environment

  • Show Control System (SCS)
  • Display Studio
  • M3 controller (M3 File Manger)
  • FinishLynx UDP with Network COM Port (NCP) Plug-in
  • Track

Cause

  • FinishLynx has a Scoreboard Output setup and running using UDP 3001.   
    • UDP 3001 is the communication port used for connection from Display Studio to the M3 controller.
    • Once FinishLynx Scoreboard Output is outputting over 3001 it will keep Display Studio from allowing to control the M3 over the same port.
    • No RTD data should be configured to send over UDP 3001.

Resolution

  1. In FinishLynx go to Scoreboard Menu > Options...
  2. Under Scoreboard and Status locate the Running Scoreboard output that is configured for Network (UDP) with Port 3001.
  3. Delete this output.
  4. Close out and restart FinishLynx software for output setting to take effect.
  5. Connection from Display Studio to M3 is now constant.
