general tips or suggestions for creating well made content in Venus 1500 especially as it applies to the commercial or retail market

Resolution

  1.  Determining hold times:
    1. The general hold time for a message or layout that we suggest in Venus 1500 is 2-3 seconds.
    2. However, depending on the local legislation this time may vary. (Some areas may require a message to be on the display for 60 seconds before it can change).
    3. Also take into consideration where your display is located.  If it is at an intersection with stop lights, you may be able to afford longer hold times or add a little more information to your message given that average drive-by time will be longer.
  2. Don't try to include too much information; keeping messages simplistic helps to get the point across.
  3. Use bold graphics to capture attention and relay information quickly.
  4. Avoid using pastels and whites (especially for night-time viewing).  Some people may find these colors harsh during night-time viewing.  If these colors are used, ensure your sign is dimming correctly or perhaps consider scheduling brightness settings in the Venus software.
  5. Depending on the location of the sign (e.g. near the street), it may be wise to limit the number of messages on the display to 4 or 5.  Having too many can be an overload of information for a viewer.  Also with a 2-3 second hold time per message, a viewer may get to see almost all of the messages or see a message fully that the viewer only caught a glimpse of the first time around.
  6. For more information and examples see our Daktronics YouTube channel. Other documents relating to the Venus software can be found at https://www.daktronics.com/en-us/support/controllers/venus-1500.
