How do I set, change, or remove a password on a Galaxy display using Venus 1500 v3?

Potential Symptoms

How to setup, change, or remove security on a Galaxy controller to prevent unauthorized access using Venus 1500 v3.

Environment

  • Galaxy & GalaxyPro
  • AF-3150, AF-3160, AF-3165, AF-3180, AF-3190, AF-3197, AF-3200, AF-3220, AF-3400, AF-3500, AF-3550, AF-3700
  • Electronic Message Center (EMC), Marquee, Electronic Message Board (EMB), Display
  • M2 & M3 controller based products
  • Venus 1500 v3

Cause

Password security can be activated in Venus 1500 version 3 for the above display models only. This allows a password to be set up for the display. The password is then stored in the display's memory and is verified each time the software communicates to the display. If the password is forgotten, it will be necessary to access the INTERNAL components of the display to reset the security function. Take care to remember the password.

Resolution

  • To enable the Security option:
    1. Open the Venus 1500 Administrator.
    2. In the Display Configuration View, expand the display type by clicking the + button.
    3. Right-click on the display name and select Edit.
    4. Click Security Options.

    5. Type and confirm the new password and click Ok.  Click OK again to close the Display Configuration Window.
    6. Review the V15Admin warning message and select OK to continue with setting a password.  A communication progress window will appear and set the password to the controller.
    7. Click OK on the V15Admin window that states the password was successfully set.

  • To change or remove an existing password:
    1. Must know the current password set to the controller or be able to get status of the display in the Venus software without getting a password alert error.  If there is a computer that can connect to the display, in the instance where multiple computers are connecting to the display or when going from an old computer to a new computer, the password can be changed with the computer that can still connect to display. The new password can then be used on the new computer.
    2. Open the security Options Window and change the password or remove the password by not checking the box and hit OK.
    3. If this is a new computer/setup then a window will prompt for the password set on the controller.  Enter it in and the new settings will take place.
