Galaxy, USB to Serial adapter, No communications with display, USB adapter is not listed under ports in device manager

Potential Symptoms

  • No communications to display.
  • When USB to Serial is installed in different USB port prompts user to install drivers.
  • USB adapter is not listed under ports in device manager.
  • Transmit LED on Signal Converter is always on (if applicable).
  • Unplugging and reinstalling USB to serial adapter does NOT resolve issue.

Cause

  • Drivers not installed for USB to Serial adapter.

Resolution

  1. Get a model number off the USB to Serial Adapter.
  2. Use a web browser to search for the adapter's model number.
  3. Download & install the driver for the correct operating system the computer is using.
  4. Ports (COM & LPT) will now list a device and should also state what com port is assigned.

For Temporary Operation

  1. If drivers will not install properly, advise to use a Daktronics approved USB to serial adapter. (Moxa cable A-2221)
  2. Contact Daktronics technical support for assistance.
