When temps are below freezing, the primary face of an AF-3500 display (firmware rev 3.0.7 or older) is blank and the mirror face is dim

Potential Symptoms

  • In temperatures below freezing, the primary face of an AF-3500 display is blank and the mirror face is dim.

Environment

  • Galaxy
  • AF-3500
  • Electronic Message Center (EMC) or Board (EMB), Marquee, Readerboard, Display
  • M3 controller based product

Cause

  • The controller interprets extremely cold temperatures incorrectly and goes into thermal dimming on the second display face. This occurs on displays with firmware versions prior to 3.0.7.

Solution

Use M2Config to update firmware on the controller. Contact Daktronics Technical Helpdesk for assistance with updating your firmware.

  • Update firmware to 3.11.1 or newer. This update will take 3-5 minutes to complete once uploaded. It is critical not to power cycle during this time.
