How to verify that a MOXA USB to serial adapter is installed & working properly?

  • Verify that a MOXA USB to serial adapter is installed and working properly

Environment

MOXA USB to serial adapter (cable)

Resolution

  1. Install the MOXA USB to serial adapter by following the instructions on the CD that was provided with the cable.
  2. Verify the MOXA USB to serial adapter is connected to your laptop/computer.
  3. Click the Windows Start button.
  4. Right click on My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows 7) and select Manage.
  5. In the left hand panel click on Device Manager.
  6. In the right hand pane, expand Ports (COM & LPT).
  7. This will display any installed COM ports on the computer.  Look for MOXA USB Serial Port (COM#). (see picture below)
  8. Double click on MOXA USB Serial Port (COM#) to confirm the device is working properly.
