New Install of VCS Local, No Communication to Controllers With Older Firmware, Update Controller Firmware

Potential Symptoms

  • Controllers with Firmware older than 2/2025 offline in recent revisions of Venus Control Suite 
  • Controllers with Firmware newer than 2/2025 offline in old installations of Venus Control Suite, or recent installs from USB thumb drive.

Cause

  • Daktronics updated the TLS Certificate 2/2025

Resolution

  • Update older firmware on controllers to restore compatibility with the new security certificate in newer versions of VCS Local.
    • Daktronics does not recommend using 2 instances of VCS Local, one older, one newer.
    • Daktronics does not support rolling back firmware on controllers to restore compatibility to old VCS because when the firmware rollback fails it will make the controller inoperative.
