How to use Brightness settings on VFC/NTCIP controller

Topic

  • VFC Brightness (dimming) controls operations.
  • DMP NTCIP Protocol Controller brightness (dimming) operations.
  • VIP brightness settings.

Environment

  • Product: Vanguard, NTCIP
  • Component: VFC, DMP-5050, DMP-5060 controller
  • Control System: Vanguard Software, NTCIP

Steps

The brightness of a display’s LEDs can be controlled in two modes: Manual and Automatic.

  • Manual Mode: The brightness remains at the specified level, regardless of ambient lighting conditions.
  • Automatic Mode: The brightness adjusts based on sensor readings of the ambient lighting conditions.
    • The brightness may need to be adjusted when a display appears too dim or too bright during certain light conditions. Using limitations on brightness settings can accomplish this. See: DD3320358-Vanguard Configuration Brightness Table for more information on the operation.

Adjusting Brightness Settings via NTCIP Applications:

  • VFC Brightness Controls:
    1. Log in to VFC controller by entering the password and pressing enter.
    2. Select Sign to adjust brightness.
    3. Select Dimming (option 3).
By default, the mode is set to Automatic, and the photocell value reflects the current brightness level. Selecting Manual allows you to set a brightness value between 1% (lowest) and 100% (brightest).
  • NTCIP DMP and VIP Web Interface Brightness Control
    1. The VFC and other NTCIP controllers brightness controls can be accessed via the controller's web interface.
    2. Login to the DMP's web interface in a web browser to access the NTCIP application.
      1. For assistance accessing the DMP web interface, contact Daktronics Technical Support.
    3. Select the NTCIP (car logo). A simulation of the LCD screen of the VFC will be presented.
    4. You can follow steps 1 through 5 of VFC Brightness Controls.
    5. Adjust Minimum and Maximum Brightness on VIP. See: Adjust Brightness Limiters on VIP.
  • Vanguard Software Brightness control
    1. When a display’s brightness mode is set to Automatic, the Edit brightness table link will be visible within the Display Control Panel window.
    2. See: DD3320358-Vanguard Configuration Brightness Table for more information on operation.
      1. NOTE: Viewing and configuring the displays brightness table requires version 4.25 or newer of Vanguard Professional or Standard.
    3. Selecting Manual Brightness will allow user to adjust brightness by percentage 1% the lowest and 100% the brightest.
