Daktronics Service Bulletin: NBA, WNBA, and G League arena stats and scoreboard interface changes for the 2024-25 season
Topic
Daktronics is reaching out to all of our valued NBA, WNBA, and G League arena customers to update you on a change to the data that feeds our stats interface programs, a part of the control system for your displays.
Starting this 2024 season, the NBA will include diacritics characters in the data in the feeds that we process to better serve the growing list of player names with diacritical characters.
Diacritics are markings that are added to typical letters of the 26- letter Latin alphabet and that reflect culturalspecific and ethnic-specific ways of expressing words, including personal names, in various locales about the globe. Some examples: Anžejs Pasečņiks, Šarūnas Jasikevičius
The NBA provided notification, communication channels, and test games for us to verify system support for this change in a timely fashion. Through discussions with the NBA, we understand that they have also communicated this change to teams and venues.

Steps
We have confirmed that for customers on the latest software versions of currently supported control systems and data interfaces, nothing needs to be done, and the data is processed and displayed correctly.
Our current control system for Basketball venues includes:
Venus Control Suite version: 24.7.2401.0
Data Studio Basketball version: 24.8.401.0
Display Studio/Content Studio version: 4.10
DMP-8000 series players version: 10.7.0.53
All current Daktronics control system software requires Windows 10 or higher. Data Studio Basketball JSON output is required. ERTD from Data Studio Basketball does not support diacritics.
We have also confirmed that previous-generation data interface products that utilize the RS-232 stats feed will NOT support this change. Symptoms will include incorrectly rendering characters and shifting or blanking the data fields. As these products are past their end-of-support dates, we will not be adding support for this NBA data change.
Unsupported products include:
Venus 7000 software all versions end of support: 2021
Venus 7000 series players all versions end of support: 2021
DSTI (NBA/IDS Interface) all versions end of support: 2023
NBA IDS Serial Feed RS-232 end of support: 2023
We are aware that some sites use the previous generation software tools for backup or other purposes and that this is a breaking change for those systems. Please get in touch with your Daktronics service representative to answer questions or for more information on the next steps and upgrade paths.
