Vanguard; Displays are blank in multi-sign setup; VFC Fiber A and B are swapped

Potential Symptoms

  • Module Revision and Module Address test patterns play successfully, but other test patterns and content do not
  • VCB 7-segment displays show Err Addr 0 00X in reverse order of displays
    • i.e Sign 1 shows Err Addr 0 001 and Sign 2 shows Err Addr 0 000
  • If the Fiber A connection is removed from the VCB in Sign 1, System Health shows Sync Loss on Prolink B
  • If VCB address dials are reversed (i.e Sign 1 becomes Addr 1, Sign 2 becomes Addr 0), content successfully plays on physical displays
  • If only 1 display is configured in VFC, Display 1 plays content and test patterns with no issues

Cause

Fiber A and B are reversed at VFC, causing the controller to believe that Display 1 is Sign X and Display X is Sign 1.

Resolution

  1. Swap the Fiber A and Fiber B connections at the VFC.
