NPN Series display with receiver card 0P-2116-1016 (RC8182) showing intermittent random tiles/mods blanking about every 50 days

Potential Symptoms

  • Narrow Pixel Pitch (NPN) display with receiver card 0P-2116-1016 (RC8182) showing intermittent random tiles / modules blanking about every 50 days.
  • Usually not all tiles are blank at once.
  • Tiles appear to be randomly blanking throughout the whole display.
  • An individual tile will blank for 60 seconds and self correct.
  • Watching multiple tiles blanking moving around the whole display might appear to last for a couple of hours then stop blanking on its own and then operate normally.
  • If display is never power cycled it will reproduce again 50 days later.

  • Component: Receiver Card: 0P-2116-1016 (RC8182)
  • Control System: 6000

Cause

  • Firmware bug for RC8182 causing blanking for 60 seconds every 49.7 days.
  • Blanking bug is shown when the runtime of the receiver card hits the rollover counter of 4294967295 milliseconds (49.7 days). Runtime can be seen in VCS diagnostics.

Resolution

  • If the display firmware package "dispfw_2024.2.22-2255e198" or newer is not available to onsite tech call into Help Desk tech support.
  • Apply display firmware package update to the display +spare Receiver Cards.
    • Reminder to power down the display before putting in any spare Receiver Cards 0P-2116-1016. After spares are in the display then power on the display. After display is fully booted up then run firmware update again to make sure everything onsite is updated.

For Temporary Operation

  • Power cycle the display say every 30 days.
  • Keep the runtime of the receiver cards under 4294967295 milliseconds (49.7 days) as reported in VCS diagnostics.
