Steps

How does a facility use Data Studio Basketball with NGSS to test connectivity and display data for creating graphics?

Data Studio Basketball includes two unique features that users can employ to run pre-game system checks, verify connectivity, and test new graphics all without switching your system and configurations over to the NBA’s test setup (League 99). These features are Replay and Restore Last Game which can be found in the NBA Replay tab Data Studio Basketball.

As of November 2023, Data Studio Basketball does not currently connect to the NBA’s test league 99 due to differences in the way that the data in that test league behaves. Development would be required to support test league capability, perhaps for future versions.

What does NBA Replay do?

Data Studio Basketball captures and saves game data for the last 7 days to disk so that it can be replayed at a later time without needing to be connected to the NGSS server.  This feature is best suited for pre-season system checks, developing new graphics and layouts that may require seeing actual game data change on the displays without being in a live game.  Replay can also be used to troubleshoot and review the previous game if there were stat issues.... stat was wrong and got corrected...or used to replicate errors.

What does Restore Last Game do?

Data Studio Basketball has the built-in ability to retrieve the data from the last play of the last game (even from last season) with the click of a button without changing setup or configuration.  This is because Data Studio Basketball is always connected to NGSS production environment.  This feature is best suited for pre-game checks where the facility wants to check if they are connected to the NGSS API or a quick way to get game day on the displays to review graphics updates.

You can select the date of the game you want to restore using the dropdown:

What if we are a facility that isn’t a permanent home to an NBA team?

Data Studio Basketball does not need the on-site stat machines used to enter a game present to test its connection to NGSS. As long as NGSS is receiving data from the stats operator's computer and a proper internet connection is made between Data Studio Basketball and NGSS, stats can be tested to the displays.

What are the differences between testing Data Studio Basketball/NGSS vs DSTI/IDS?

Data Studio Basketball and NGSS operate very differently than DSTI and the IDS interface. Data Studio Basketball connects to NGSS API through the internet whereas DSTI and IDS through a hardwired serial connection, which is only available in venue.

How do I get REAL game data on a display to test or create content?

  1. Data Studio Basketball: Open via a single-click on the UI from anywhere in the system's network.
  2. DSTI/IDS: Follow the coordinated effort to setup as you would for a game.
    1. Get the IDS laptops and software setup.
    2. Verify the signal converters and other cabling setup.
  3. Restore Last Game within Data Studio Basketball.

How can I verify if stats are populating properly on Data Studio Basketball during a game?

1. Under the Main Menu, click Stats Dashboard.

2. Check to see if data is coming onto the monitors. Under the Home Team Score, you will see a Last updated timestamp on when Data Studio Basketball last communicated with NGSS.
