Genius Live Stats / IAU (In-Arena-Utility) File Delivery Best Practices for Data Studio or Data Server

Topic

  • Depending on stat laptop's user rights/networking situation, sometimes IAU will not write across the network.
  • Genius officially does not support this type of operation *We do not anticipate this to stop working for existing sites that already are working, but we should be aware that this could happen at any time.

Environment

  • Product: Genius Live Stats / IAU - In Arena Utility / Stat Crew XML
  • Components: Data Server & Data Studio
  • Control System: NCAA / College Sports

Steps

It is the responsibility of the customer to provide a way to deliver the file from their stats computer to the Daktronics machine (DSTI or Venus-P).

*Currently Daktronics integrates to the XML output from Genius Live Stats. We no longer support the comfile or .sb delivery methods.

Approved Connection Methods:

  • Cloud/HTTP hosted file   (Data Studio & Data Server)– The client provides Daktronics with a url to a cloud hosted XML file for data delivery. Many customers have this available directly from Genius with a game ID or through their rightsholders (i.e., Sidearm Sports, StatBroadcast, etc.) (Shown below)

  • FTP  (Data Server FB and Data Server BA only)  – The client provides Daktronics with a FTP address and credentials to access the XML file. Many customers have this available through their rightsholders (i.e., Sidearm Sports, StatBroadcast, etc.)
  • Network Share – IAU pushes files over the network to Daktronics Computer (DSTI or Venus-P) Shared Folder via a mapped drive on stats computer.

NOTE: This only works by sharing a folder that lives on the DSTI or Venus-P machine to the customer computer via a mapped network drive. It does not work when sharing a network drive from the customer computer to the DSTI or Venus-P machine.

  • Cloud File Storage/Sync – Dropbox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, AmazonDrive  - Customer responsible for setting up accounts, installing software, and logging in on Stats and Daktronics computers. Daktronics will configure our application (Data Server/Data Studio) to access this local location on the Daktronics machine. *Customer should set up a new account exclusively for this purpose.
  • Syncback – Latency limitations, but this is a viable option as a last resort. Other file copy (Robocopy) utilities may work, and Daktronics recommends checking with your IT group for suggestions or support.
