How to troubleshoot a DF-2052 & DF-2053

How to troubleshoot blank DF-2053 displays.

Environment

  • DF-2052, DF-2053 Display
  • Third party software

Steps

  1. Check power and signal connections on the display.
    • Display Driver LED POWER lit.
    • STATUS LED flashing.
    • RX and TX LED's not lit.
  2. Change X5 jumper from C position to D position to put in test mode. (Return to original configuration).
    • C = normal operations.
    • D = test pattern, all digits lit.
  3. Change X3 jumper from MDP to V1500 to observe boot up sequence. (Return to original configuration).
    • Multi-drop protocol (MDP) system uses unidirectional communication where the control computer sends data to the display and the display does not communicate diagnostic information to the control computer.

    • Venus® 1500 (V1500) protocol uses bidirectional communication where the control computer sends data to the display and receives information regarding sign status and maintenance needs in return.

  4. Remove signal connection to TB3- Controlled by switches inputs. (return to original configuration).

    • Short PIN 1 to PIN 2 and it should count up
    • Short PIN 2 to PIN 3 and it should count down
    • Short PIN 5 to PIN 6 and it should display FULL
    • Short PIN 5 to PIN 4 and it should display OPEN
  5. If the above-listed results occur with testing, then the display is working properly.
  6. Focus of troubleshooting should move towards the network, switches & software.
    • Software control is done using third-party software. 1500 Software is not used.
