Topic

What is the best practice for setting up the Monitor Wall in Display Studio?
The Display Studio's built-in "Monitor Wall" delivers confidence by letting you see all your displays right from your user interface.

Environment

  • Product: Display Studio
  • Components: Monitor Wall
  • Control System: Show Control System

Steps

You will need to have a workspace already created in Display Studio to access the Monitor Wall.

Set up Monitor Wall

Right-click in the monitor wall (the black bar appearing at the top of the Display Studio window) and select Properties to open the Monitor Wall Properties pane.

To add a display to the monitor wall, select the appropriate display from the drop-down list. Select the add (+) button. The display will appear on the monitor wall. Save the new change.
Note:  Once a display is added to the monitor wall, it is no longer an available option from the drop-down menu. If deleted, it will reappear in the drop-down as an available sign to re-add.  To delete a display from the monitor wall, select the existing sign in the monitor wall. Click the delete ( - ) button.

Repeat for each display that you wish to add. Keep in mind that the monitor wall does not show display content in real time – it merely shows a regularly updated snapshot of the display's content during a particular moment in time.

Organizing the Monitor Wall

Displays can be reordered by simply clicking and dragging them to their desired new location.

Displays can be resized by clicking a display's border and using the resizing cursor to drag it to the desired size.

Displays can be stacked by clicking a display and dragging it over top of the display you wish to stack it with. Displays can only be stacked up to three high.

The zoom level of the displays can be adjusted to give you a more complete view of the content being played. In the image below, the portion of the content in the red box is all that would be visible at 100% zoom level (the default setting). By reducing the zoom level, more of the content can be seen. Adjust the zoom level by selecting a display and using the zoom control to change the view as desired.

Floating Monitor Wall

Overview

The Monitor Wall can now be displayed as either:

  • Docked within the Display Studio workspace
  • Floating in a separate movable window

This enhancement provides greater flexibility when arranging your Display Studio workspace, especially for users with multiple monitors. Functionality of the monitor wall itself remains unchanged. The update only affects how the monitor wall is displayed within the user interface.

Why Use It?

Benefits of Floating the Monitor Wall

  • Move the monitor wall to a secondary display.
  • Create more room within the main Display Studio workspace.
  • Increase visibility of buttons, containers, widgets, and status controls.
  • Customize workspace layouts based on operator preference and event needs.
  • Switch between docked and floating modes as needed.
  • The height of the monitor wall can be made to the point where it doesn't consume space and doesn't update.

Procedure

  1. Locate the Monitor Wall within Display Studio.
  2. Select the Float Window option.
  3. Move the Monitor Wall window to the desired location or monitor.
  4. Resize the floating window as needed.

Return the Monitor Wall to Docked Mode

  1. Select the Dock Window option from the floating Monitor Wall.
  2. The Monitor Wall will return to its original location within the Display Studio workspace.
  3. Click the X will also return the Monitor Wall to Docked Mode.

Note: Floating the Monitor Wall changes only its window placement. The enhancement does not introduce new monitoring capabilities. It only provides additional flexibility in workspace arrangement.
