Venus 1500 V4 hangs when publishing video content to Galaxy display. Multiplier too large for network.

Potential Symptoms

  • Static images and text content publish to display without timing out.
  • Content containing videos do not publish.
    • Venus V4 may hang and need to be closed via Task Manager.
    • Sign may need to be power cycled to allow M2Config to connect if a publish fails in V1500.
    • "Connection to display appears to be in use" error in V1500V4.
    • "The request was not recognized" error in V1500V4.

Environment

  • Product Family: Message Displays
  • Product: Galaxy, GalaxyPro
  • Component: M2, M3 controllers, Ethernet communications
  • Control System: Venus 1500

Cause

  • Packet Size Multiplier set above 5 creates packets too large for some networks, causing the file to crash in transit. Issue may be present when Packet Size Multiplier is set to 128 on the display controller.

Resolution

 - Testing of multiplier size can be done.

  • We can test with Multiplier size of "1" and "5".
Step 1: Connect to the display using M2Config: Follow: How to connect to a Galaxy display using the M2Config Utility, DD2342173.

Step 2: Set the multiplier on the controller to 1 using M2Config utility software.

    1. Under the Configuration tab, click the Communications folder.
    2. Change the Multiplier from "128" to "1" or "5".
    3. Typically 5 works well.
    4. Click File -> Set Configuration (blue down arrow). -> Sign should reset.
    5. Repeat steps 1 & 2 after the sign has finished restarting to verify that the change was accepted by controller.

    1. Remember that Ethernet communication displays should be set to 128 or run the risk of communication running to slow.
    2. Refer to KB for more info: Display has slow or intermittent Ethernet communication, Multiplier is set to 1
