How to load permanent messages to a VFC

  • How do I load permanent messages to a VFC controller?
  • Customer would like to add messages to the Permanent Library, but isn't sure how to accomplish this.
  • If a VFC customer wants a specific permanent message they need to make a request and the request will be processed through the VFC or Software group.

Environment

  • Product Family: Transportation
  • Product: VF, VM, VX, VS6 display with DMP-5000 controller
  • Component: VFC , Permanent messages (.zip file) provided by Daktronics Engineering, Flash drive / memory stick
  • Control System: Vanguard Software

Steps

2 ways to load the file to the controller.
  • LOCALLY. Load to the controller using a flash drive:
  1. Download and save the file to your flash drive.
    1. Do not put the zip file in another folder, keep it in the top level of the flash drive.
  2. File needs to stay zipped on the flash drive.
  3. Connect the flash drive to the back of the VFC controller J3.
  4. Log into the VFC.
  5. Select SHARED.
  6. Select UPDATE.
  7. Select ADD-INS.
  8. Select Permanent message file (EXAMPLE: Daktronics-c12345_1.0.5_all.zip).
  9. If DMP firmware is older than version 7.16, customer will need a .deb file instead of .zip file.
  10. Select CONFIRM.
  11. [Step 1 of 2] Retrieving File = success.
  12. [Step 2 of 2] Installing = success.
  13. Go to Configuration.
  14. Select System.
  15. Select Optional.
  16. Run Script.
  17. Select the message set you just loaded.
  18. Select Confirm.
  19. Cancel to the Main Menu.
  20. Go to Message Control.
  21. Select Run Saved Message.
  22. Choose the message you want to play.
REMOTLY. Load to the controller using the webpage interface.
  1. Log into the controller by typing the IP address in the web browser. 
  2. Select NTCIP tab (Car icon) along left hand column.
  3. Select Upload Contact Scripts button. (Must be at version 8.1.02 or higher firmware for this to be present)
  4. Browse to file location on your computer.
  5. Select OPEN to load to the VFC.
  6. Log into the Menu screen using your password.
  7. Select sign 1.
  8. Go to Configuration.
  9. Select System.
  10. Select Optional.
  11. Run Script.
  12. Select the message set you just loaded.
  13. Select Confirm.
  14. Cancel to the Main Menu.
  15. Go to Message Control.
  16. Select Run Saved Message.
  17. Choose the message you want to play.
If the VFC is controlling multiple signs, you will have to run the script on all signs listed in the controller if they are using the same permanent messages.
