DMP-7000, DMP-8000: How do I name and number signs in a control system?

Topic

  • What is the best practice for naming and numbering signs in a DMP-7000 or DMP-8000 control system?
  • Daktronics Standards for Naming and Numbering Signs

Environment

  • Product: DMP-7000, DMP-8000 (via layout file)
  • Components: Windowing/Zoning

This is supported in configurable systems using DMP-7000 or DMP-8000 players. This document applies to both adding new signs and editing existing displays.

Note: Zoning is not supported in standard, non-configurable systems. If you are unsure of the type of your system, please contact Daktronics.

Version 2.32 of Show Control is the last version to support DMP-7000 or Venus 7000. If you are interested in upgrading to the newest technology, visit Daktronics Professional Services to learn more.  https://www.daktronics.com/en-us/markets/sports/services

Steps

DMP 8000 Instructions:

  1. For how to create zones on DMP-8000 player version 7.20+, use - How do I add a layout in Venus Control Suite?
  2. For giving DMP-8000 zones an ERTD number on version 7.20+, use - How to Setup ERTD on a DMP-8000 via HTML Web Interface

DMP 7000 Instructions:

1.  Create A New Sign in the DMP 7000 (If Necessary)- See Venus 7000: How do I layer zones or windows . Factory settings usually consist of only the host sign(s). Any windows or additional signs will need to be created.

  1. In the Venus 7000 Shell click Configure.
  2. Choose the Signs tab. A list of current signs is shown.
  3. Click Add Sign. If an existing sign needs editing, highlight the appropriate sign and click Edit Sign.

2.  Enter a Sign Name
Type in a name for the new sign. Follow Daktronics sign naming standards below. Click OK when finished.

Always include the word "Host" for any host sign.

3.  Set Number of Rows and Columns
Insert the number of rows and columns for the new sign. This should be consistent with the information in the sign name above. No other fields need to be changed in this tab.
Note: The sign name is not an editable item. If a mistake/typo was made in the name, at this point it would be best to delete this sign and create a new one.

4.  Assign an ERTD Sign Number

  1. Choose the Advanced Tab.
  2. Enter an ERTD sign number in the Enhanced RTD Sign Number field based on the Daktronics ERTD Sign Numbering Standards. Click OK when finished.

10, 20, 30, etc……………………Host Signs

11-19, 21-29, 31-39, etc…………………Windows on the corresponding host sign

Keep in mind all other players in the system. Most situations do not use a sign number more than once in the same system. Only use the same number if it desired to have a group of displays controlled together. This could be done to control a group or auxiliary displays or ticket windows. Larger systems that use over 100 ERTD sign numbers need to set up their systems to broadcast to different parts.

4.  Assign Window to a Host
All windows must be associated with a host sign in the system. If a sign is not listed as a host, it must be associated within a host sign as a window.

  1. In the Signs tab, select the Host sign and click Edit Sign.
  2. Choose the Windows tab.
  3. Choose a blank row and check the Enable box. Click in the empty Sign column to reveal a drop-down list of available signs. Select the desired sign you wish to window.Naming Windows 4.png
  4. Enter a starting point for the window in the row and column list. This will be the upper left corner of the window.

Repeat steps 3 & 4 for all additional windows. List windows from largest to smallest to properly layer larger windows in front of smaller ones.

For more information about layering windows See How to Layer Zones or Windows in DMP-7000.

5.  Restart Sign Service

  1. Sign service must be restarted for any changes to take effect.
  2. Upon altering any sign configuration, Venus 7000 will prompt you to restart sign service. Follow the prompts to complete the process. Note: Restarting Sign Service in V7000 will blank your display.
  3. Close and Re-open Display Studio for changes to take effect.
