Improved Basketball Experience Coming to Wayne State with Daktronics Displays

New main video, ribbon displays and narrow pixel pitch display to be installed in 2021

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Nov. 5, 2021 – Wayne State University (WSU) is preparing to open a new basketball arena featuring LED video and ribbon displays from Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. Installation was recently completed on the campus in Detroit, Michigan, to be ready for the start of basketball season. The Warriors men’s basketball team hosts the University of Michigan in an exhibition contest today, Friday, Nov. 5, 2021.

“As we open our first ever Fieldhouse on campus against national power The University of Michigan, the features and amenities by the Daktronics team has greatly enhanced the fan experience from the moment audiences enter the doors,” remarked WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier. “We have proudly been a partner with Daktronics for 21 years now and their expertise, professionalism and commitment are evident throughout the facility. Wayne State University will shine even brighter as the doors open on the Epicenter of Detroit basketball because of Daktronics.”

At the end of the fieldhouse, a main video display was installed to engage audiences and immerse fans in the game-day experience. This display features 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing and measures approximately 19 feet high by 33 feet wide. It’s capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or multiple zones of digital content. This includes live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

Along the seating fascia at the sides of the fieldhouse, two ribbon displays were installed. These displays each feature 15-millimeter pixel spacing and measure approximately 2.5 feet high by 156 feet long. They allow the ability to share statistics and graphics to complement the main display while also offering the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events.

“Daktronics is proud to partner with Wayne State University on their new Fieldhouse,” said Matt Warnke, Daktronics sales representative. “This facility will provide an unbelievable environment on game-day and we are excited that our display technology will play a small part in the fan experience. We look forward to seeing the building open for basketball season.”

Outside of the seating bowl, a media wall display was installed to captivate audiences while away from their seats. This narrow pixel pitch display will feature 1.9-millimeter pixel spacing and will measure 9 feet high by 16 feet wide. This display allows for flexibility of content and the ability to capitalize on additional opportunities that arise at Wayne State.

The installation also includes two fixed-digit scoreboards, 18 locker room clocks, backboard light strips and shot clocks. This scoring equipment helps keep the basketball games running smoothly and integrates into the video display system.
