Real-time data includes time, temperature, data from a text file, and in-game statistics.  Common in-game stats that are received come from an AllSport, DakStats, OmniSport, StatCrew, SportsWire, GameDay, StatVision, GSIS, IDS, NHL Ice, Hy-Tek and FinishLynx.

Steps

Configure RTD Inputs

Standard inputs for stats have been developed and should be followed to keep consistent structure on all configurations.  

  1. From the Venus7000 shell click Configure > RTD Inputs

  2. Use the Standard RTD Inputs to select the appropriate input. Click Edit Input.

  3. In the Name box, enter the name of the input source, i.e. DakStats.

  4. Select the Source Type or communication device desired from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select the Source, Protocol, and Default Input Template. If necessary, select the Baud Rate.  Select the Parity from its drop-down menu. The parity determines if data is sending properly.  

  6. Select Data Bits, or the speed at which information should transfer, from the drop-down menu.
    Note: Data sources send information at different baud rates, parity, and data bits. Consult the manual for the data source (ex: AllSport 5000) to find the appropriate settings.

  7. Once all appropriate boxes are filled, click OK to return to the RTD Input menu. 
    Note: You may be prompted with a message "The RTD buffer is less than the ITF size, would you like to adjust the size?" Select Yes.

  8. Click OK to return to the System Configuration menu. Click OK to return to the Shell menu.

Note: The Sign Service will need restarting in order for the configuration to take effect. A message prompts for service restart; click Yes to restart the sign service. Another message asking whether to stop any running signs appears; click Yes. Finally, a message asking whether to stop the Remote Service appears; click Yes. This process causes the live display to momentarily go blank while the Venus 7000 sign service restarts.

Determine Data Frame Layout

  1. Determine which displays will show real-time data and the type of information that is needed based upon the sources available.

  2. Create a layout example to visually aid design of the data frame.  Creating a layout in advance can speed up the process.

  3. Remember a RTD frame can have data from multiple inputs.

Create an RTD Sequence in Sequence Designer

When a sign has multiple windows and will display a game clock, the RTD must be created on the host sign.  If the sign is not created on the host sign the time shown may experience skipping for the tenths or hundredths of a second.

  1. Click the Edit button on the Venus 7000 Shell. The Sequence Designer opens.

  2. Click File > New. Click the plus sign next to the desired sign. Click the Library folder. Type sequence name in the File Name text box. Click OK.

  3. Click Frame > Insert > Data Frame … The Frame Properties window opens. Click the Data Field Parameters tab.

  4. In the Field Type section, click the radio button next to RTD. An RTD Field section is now visible on this window. Notice a white box appears on the frame.

  5. In the RTD Field section, click the dropdown arrow under Input. Click Input 1 - All Sport.

  6. Click the drop-down arrow under Field Name and click the first field (ex: Home Team Name). The Length and Justification fields automatically adjust by the Input Template File. Users may manually adjust these values, if desired.

  7. Type in the Sample Text text box. Use the up and down arrows under Row and Col to adjust the location of the sample text on the frame. Users may also adjust the text by clicking and dragging text to the desired location. Click the drop-down arrow under Font to adjust the font. Change the Color of the text by clicking the Text Color button and adjusting the sliders.

  8. Set the Overlay Mode to Outline 1. Outline places borders around the text and displays the background color. Block places a black box around the text, blocking out the background color.

  9. To insert another field on the frame, click the up arrow under Field to change the value to 2. Repeat Steps 5-9. For this exercise, enter the following fields from the Input Template File: Guest Team Name, Home Team Score, Guest Team Score, Main Clock Time, Quarter, Down, Ball On and To Go.

    Note: The field outlined in white is the field currently selected. To modify a field, it must be selected (outlined in white).

  10. Once all RTD fields are entered on the frame, click OK to close Frame Properties. To edit the fields, click the Properties button and select the Data Frame Parameters tab.

  11. To add headers for baseball, basketball, or football reference the corresponding ITF (ex: baseball labels.itf).  The ITF file will be saved directly in the V7000 folder and the text file will be located in the V7000\RTD folder.  For other applications to add text to the data frame, select the Text tool, click inside the frame and type "QTR". Format the text. Continue entering text fields.

  12. Delete the first blank frame. Click the First Frame button. Click the Delete Frame button. Click Delete Current and click Close.

  13. Save and Close the sequence.

Edit Multiple RTD Fields
  1. Open the sequence within Sequence Designer.

  2. Select Properties > Data Field Parameters.

  3. When you have selected the first field you want to begin to edit you can either use the SHIFT or CTRL key to select the grouping.  SHIFT will allow you to select the first field and last field of the group.  CTRL will allow you to select multiple fields on the screen.  To select the item the operator you will need to click inside of the RTD field.

  4. After a group has been selected, the following items could be adjusted: input numbers, justification, text color, overlay modes, row and column, and font.

  5. Click OK to save the changes and return to the sequence.

Verify Data is Received in DMP-7000

  1. Click Diagnostics > RTD.

  2. From the drop-down menu, select the Input number of the RTD.

  3. Click Refresh to view any changes in the RTD sample.

  4. Click Clear Data to remove the RTD sample from the RTD Data box.

6.  Verify Data is Received in DSTI

The DMP-7000 must be turned on when the stats begin to be sent by the source (ex: AllSport 5000 or StatCrew).  If it is not currently running, the source would need to be updated to resend a new stream.
