General Troubleshooting

  • Check that the power light is on

Verify Network Activity:

  • LINK LED = ON, this verifies that the EMOD is connected and communicating to a network switch

    1. If off, Check Network Cables and Connections, Network Switches/Converters and Fiber

  • ACT LED = ON, this verifies that our bundle settings match that of the receiving device

    1. If off, verify LINK LED is on and bundle setting matches 100001

  • FAULT LED = Normally off

If blinking, check the table for error code and solution

# of Blinks
IndicatesSolution
1Mismatched format or bundle settings.Verify bundle setting is 100001.
3Invalid bundle number selected (greater than bundle #65279).Verify bundle setting is 100001.
4Ethernet cable disconnected or no CobraNet devices on the network.Check network cables and connections, check network switches/converters and fiber.
5CobraNet can't communicate with the DSP inside the EMOD.Replace EMOD with part # 0A-1561-0050 Whirlwind to Biamp Conversion kit.
6Blinks on power up and when an encoder setting is detected.Nothing to check, normal operation.

Verify Input Signal:

  1. If LEDs don't light up, there is likely an issue, see Audio: No signal is present at analog to digital converter in the fiber box  for additional troubleshooting.
  2. Set mixer to output a 1kHz sine wave between 0.5VAC - 1VAC. (1 kHz sine wave). https://dakfiles.daktronics.com/downloads/Audio/CD%20Test%20Tones/
  3. Check the signal LEDs at Input A for input signal.

    Verify Output Signal:

    1. Connect a computer to the system (via DIAGNOSTIC PORT on the bottom of the fiber box or an open port on the network switch) and start CobraNet Discovery software.
      1. Use the Amplifier Field Guide to verify computer and amplifiers are configured properly.
    2. Once devices populate use proper Sportsound monitoring panel to verify the amplifiers are receiving proper signal.
      1. Refer to Audio: How do I check that my sound system is operating properly?  for more information.

    Verify proper EMOD configuration:

    1. Input Signal plugged into input A.
    2. Signal gain should be set to approximately the 1 o'clock position.
    3. CobraNet Bundle Select Rotary Dials are set to 100001.
    4. Signal Meter should show mostly -12 or yellow on A with content playing.
    5. If showing 0 or red, signal coming from front end is too high or input is set too high, adjust input signal or mixer output.
    6. If not showing signal, see Audio: No signal is present at analog to digital converter in the fiber box .
    Additional Troubleshooting
    Indicator Light Photo DescriptionPossible Cause/Solution
emod1.png LEDs reflect normal operating mode with sufficient non-clipped signal present at the input.
emod2.png Normally indicates a device which is properly communicating with the system where the "LINK" is connected to a switch and the "ACT" indicates there is activity between this device and the amplifiers.
    • Verify signal is present at the input "A" with the LED at the right.  The green/amber LED should be lit.- Check the input gain dial on the back of the device.  Should be approximately in the 1 o'clock position.
    • Verify there is VAC signal on the line and the rack is outputting.  If signal is present on the cable, but EMOD is not registering signal at the input, replace EMOD.
emod3.png This indicates there is a "LINK" between the EMOD and the switch, but there is no activity with the EMOD and amplifiers.
    • Ensure cabinet power is on and switch in fiber box is on.
    • Verify "Link/Connectivity" LEDs on switch fiber ports are lit/blinking and that you have good fiber.
    • Verify port activity LEDs are lit on the switches/MC in press box and cabinet location.
    • Verify amplifiers are turned on and communicating to switch in cabinet.
emod4.png This indicates there is no "LINK" between the EMOD and the switch.
    • Check Ethernet cable(s) between switch/MC, try different cables.
    • Check switch /MC. Try a different port.
    • Replace EMOD.
