  • How do I troubleshoot a blank scoreboard or timing display with no POST (Power-On-Self-Test)/boot sequence?

Steps

  1. Ensure any All Sport console within range of/connected to the scoreboard is turned off. 
  2. Check incoming power to the display (120 V AC for all US models).
  3. Check output voltages of power supplies/transformers.
    1. Power supplies output a DC voltage (usually ~24 V DC).
      1. Most outdoor LED scoreboards have power supplies, except -31 model scoreboards which have transformers.
    2. Transformers output an AC voltage (usually ~18 V AC).
      1. Most indoor LED displays have transformers.
      2. Some older incandescent board have 28 VAC transformers.
    3. Note: see step #5.2 for older incandescent boards.
    4. If bad voltage output, see Section of scoreboard is not lighting; Power Supply is outputting 0VDC, DD2234314.
  4. Verify diagnostic LEDs on driver board. If there are no diagnostic lights lit on the driver, go to Step 5.1.
    1. Legacy Driver
      1. Normal operation Diagnostic Light status:
        1. Green power light - on steady
        1. Amber status light - blinks about once per second
        1. Red receiver/rx light - flickers or is on when receiving signal for console
    2. Gyrus driver - What do the Gyrus driver LED indicators mean, DD3050464.
  5. Verify power into driver.
    1. LED Scoreboards and Timing Displays: power will be delivered through J17 on the driver (can be AC or DC voltage depending on the scoreboard).
      1. ~ 24 VDC if scoreboard has power supplies (US models)
      2. ~ 18 VAC if scoreboard has transformers (US models)
    2. Incandescent Scoreboards and Timing Displays (light bulbs): normally these drivers will have 120 V AC (US models) directly into the scoreboard.
      1. J18 - newer incandescent drivers require all 4 pins to have power vs just two outside pine (1&4):
        1. Outdoor: 120 VAC: powers jacks J1- J8
        2. Indoor: 28 VAC
      2. J19: 120 VAC: logic power
      3. J20 - newer drivers require all 4 pins to have power vs just two outside pins (1&4):
        1. Outdoor: 120 VAC: powers jacks J9 - J16 (only on 16 column drivers)
        2. Indoor 28 VAC
