All Sport MX-1; name greater than 17 characters not showing (iOS) or showing question marks past 17 characters (Android)

Potential Symptoms

  •  Renaming the All Sport MX-1 controller with a name greater than 17 characters:
    • iOS - Whole name will be blank.
    • Android - Characters past 17 will show up as question marks.

Cause

  • Bug with Bluetooth module firmware v1.0 and v1.1.
    • Verify by going to Settings Menu > Diagnostics.

Resolution

Update to v1.2 or higher with an over-the-air update to the Bluetooth module firmware.
  • With the control device with an internet connection, go to Settings Menu > Diagnostics > Check for Update > then select the DD3761082_VXX_X_BT.FUD file.
  • Keep the control device and All Sport MX-1 in range while the update is in progress.  A status bar is displayed showing the progress and a prompt at the end when update is complete.
  • Update will usually take about 7 mins.

For Temporary Operation

  • Rename with a name 17 or less characters.
