VS6: How to configure a VS6 display to work with a DM-100 control pad

Environment

  • Product: GS6 converted to a VS6 Display
  • Components: DM-100 control pad, DMP-5050 controller, Moxa adapter, Lantronix Box UDS-1100 modem, DB-9 serial cable, Ethernet cable
  • Control System: VFC (DMP-5050)

Steps

Configure the DM-100.

  1. Set it to NTCIP mode not ERTD. 
  2. Cycle power to the DM-100, and watch the boot up sequence.

    1. NOTE that if DM-100 is 0A-1248-0024 it is already in NTCIP mode. 

Configure the Lantronix Ethernet/Serial device.

  1. Use device installer to configure Lantronix UDS-1100.

  2. Connect to the UDS-1100 with either Ethernet cable or serial cable.
  3. Open device installer and click search.
  4. Click on the IP it found and select the telnet tab.
  5. Click connect.
  6. Press enter to start Setup Mode.
  7. Press 0 and enter to start server config.
  8. Enter the IP address for the modem (Lantronix device).  *This IP address needs to within range of the display's IP address.
  9. Enter the Gateway.
  10. Type the number of bits and enter to set the subnet mask.  Chart below.

  1. Enter "N"  to not set the DNS Server IP.
  2. Press enter to not set the Telnet/Web manager password.
  3. Press enter to not set the DHCP name. (If DHCP has been disabled then this step is not needed)
  4. Press enter to keep DHCP FQDN option disabled. (if DHCP has been disabled then this step is not needed)
  5. Press 1 and enter to start channel 1 config.
  6. Press enter to use 9600 baud.
  7. Press enter to use 4C (RS-232) interface mode.
  8. Press enter to disable flow control.
  9. Enter the NTCIP port number of the sign and press enter to set the Port number. (port 161 by default)
  10. Type CC enter to set Connect Mode.
  11. Type 01 enter to set Datagram Type.
  12. Press enter to disable broadcast.
  13. Enter the Signs IP address for remote. 
  14. Enter the port number of the sign and press enter to set remote port.
  15. Type 02 enter to set the Pack Control.
  16. Press enter to set SendChar1 to 00.
  17. Press enter to set SendChar2 to 00.
  18. Press 9 enter to save configuration and exit setup mode.  You should get a message that says Parameters stored.
  19. Disconnect the Moxa Adapter from the DB9 serial cable.

Configure the DMP side of the controller to work with DM-100 touchpad.

  1. Type the ip address of the sign into your web browser followed by /#ntcip.  Example: http://10.3.20.28/#ntcip (or exclude /#ntcip and click on the car icon on the side instead)
  2. Log into the controller. It is Password Protected. Contact Daktronics Tech Support for this information if you do not already have it.

  3. Press at the login screen.
  4. Select Sign 1.
  5. Select Configuration.
  6. Select Communication.
  7. Select Ethernet.
  8. Select Protocol.
  9. Select PMPP IP.
